How to Claim a Health Fund Rebate for Your CPAP Machine or Mask

If you’ve recently purchased a CPAP machine, mask or accessories, you may be eligible to claim a rebate through your private health fund. Many Australian health insurers recognise CPAP therapy as an essential treatment for sleep apnoea, and offer partial reimbursement for approved equipment. Here’s what you need to know before making your claim.

1. Check Your Health Fund Cover

Each health fund has its own rules on CPAP rebates. The rebate usually falls under “Extras Cover” or “Sleep Apnoea Equipment”, but the exact category may differ depending on the provider.

Contact your insurer or check your member portal to confirm:

  • Whether CPAP devices are covered under your policy
  • The benefit amount (some cover up to 80% of the purchase price, others a set dollar value)
  • The claiming period (e.g. once every 2 to 5 years)
  • Whether accessories like masks, tubing or filters are included

Tip: You don’t need a hospital admission to qualify — CPAP rebates are outpatient benefits for ongoing sleep therapy.

2. Obtain the Necessary Documentation

Most funds require:

  • A detailed tax invoice showing the supplier’s ABN, itemised products, and total amount paid
  • A sleep study report or doctor’s letter confirming a diagnosis of sleep apnoea
  • A CPAP prescription or recommendation letter from a sleep physician or doctor

If you purchased from Easy CPAP, you can use your emailed invoice for claiming. It includes all the required business details and product information.

Tip: If your health fund provider is asking for a provider number then you will need to contact you medical practitioners (doctors/sleep specialists) for this provider number as they are have diagnosed and confirmed your sleep apnoea.  These doctor provider numbers generally appear on the CPAP prescription or recommendation letters for your sleep physician or doctor

If your health fund provider is asking for an equipment provider number, then our Easy CPAP equipment health fund provider number can be found on the bottom of all our invoices
