The 'Motor Life Exceeded' Warning
The "Motor Life Exceeded" message on CPAP machines, particularly ResMed models, is
a pre-programmed, time-based alert (usually after 5 years) indicating the device has reached its expected lifespan. It does not signify immediate failure, and the device can often continue to function.
This message is a safety feature that warns CPAP users their machine has passed its 'used by date' for optimal performance. This message appears after approximately 22,000 hours of therapy. It is to notify users that they can continue to use their CPAP machine, however, it may suddenly stop working, which could be an issue if you're on therapy.
- Purpose of Message: Manufacturers often include this alert to encourage upgrading, not necessarily because the motor has broken.
- What to Do:
- Continue Using: If the machine functions normally, you can ignore the message and continue using it.
- Check Performance: Ensure the air pressure is sufficient and there are no unusual noises.
- Replace/Repair: If the machine is noisy, underperforming, or no longer blowing air, it is time to contact your Easy CPAP
-
Lifespan: Most CPAP machines are designed to be replaced every 5 years.
